The conversation between Schultz and Putin and Zelensky’s agitation
German Chancellor Olaf Schulz had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, but before that he informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was not welcomed by the Ukrainian side.
According to Isna, the German government announced today that Schultz and Putin had a telephone conversation for the first time since December 2022 and after two years.
In this conversation, Shults emphasized the need to end the conflict in Ukraine.
The German chancellor also asked Russia to negotiate with Kiev and emphasized that Germany will continue to support Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the German chancellor’s spokesman said that Schultz “spoke with Zelensky before contacting the Russian president and will speak with him again.”
According to Baron’s News, Zelensky, apparently upset by the call, told Schultz that a call to Putin could help the Russian leader “reduce his international isolation” and ultimately lead to a continuation of the war in Ukraine.
Earlier, German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock claimed that Putin did not answer Schultz’s phone calls and did not want to talk to him about mediation for peace in Ukraine.
