Russia-Indonesia maritime anti-terrorism maneuvers
Russian and Indonesian ships practiced freeing a ship captured by terrorists and combating drones in the first joint naval exercise between the two countries in the Java Sea, the Russian state News agency reported today (Monday).
According to Isna, the joint exercise was held as Indonesia’s new president, Prabowo Subianto, pledged closer defense ties with Russia in an effort to build ties with any country as part of Jakarta’s long-standing non-aligned foreign policy.
“Novosti” news agency, citing the press service of the Russian fleet in the Pacific Ocean, reported that the crews of the joint unit of the ships carried out maneuver and communication exercises, as well as inspecting suspicious vessels.
According to Novorsti, training was also conducted to deal with unmanned boats by shooting from automatic artillery and small arms. In addition, deck helicopters have been used for joint task training.
According to this report, on the Russian side, the ships Gromki, Rezki, Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsidenzhapov and the medium-sized tanker Pechenga participated in these exercises. Several ships participated from the Indonesian side.
