The German government coalition collapsed after Schultz fired the finance minister
Germany’s ruling three-party coalition collapsed on Wednesday evening after Chancellor Olaf Schultz announced he would fire his finance minister, Christian Lindner, over ongoing disagreements over economic reforms.
According to RCO News Agency, the critical negotiations in the coalition of Schultz’s Social Democratic Party, Greens and Lindner’s Free Democratic Party reached their peak after the Free Democratic Party issued a document with the demands of liberal economic reforms, which was difficult for the other two parties to accept.
During a three-party leaders meeting Wednesday evening at the chancellor’s office, Lindner told Schultz he saw no way to continue the coalition and asked him to pave the way for early elections.
