Lavrov: Türkiye makes fun of peace mediation and gives weapons to Kiev!
Referring to the arms cooperation between Türkiye and Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Minister said that no country’s attempt to mediate will succeed, because Russia’s rivals do not have peace on their agenda.
According to Isna, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that considering Turkey’s announcement of readiness to help solve the Ukraine crisis, the continued cooperation between the defense industries of Ankara and Kiev is surprising.
Lavrov said in an interview with the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet: “Unfortunately, Ankara continues its military-technical cooperation with Kiev. “Ukraine’s armed forces use Turkish weapons to kill Russian soldiers and civilians, and considering Türkiye’s declaration of readiness to mediate, this is surprising.”
He also stated that Russia is ready for a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine, but does not demand a temporary ceasefire, saying: “Russia is ready to reach a political solution, but this should not only lead to a temporary ceasefire, but also to the resolution of the conflict with It leads to the elimination of its root causes, causes including NATO’s eastward expansion, threats to Russia’s security and fundamental interests, and violation of the rights of Russians and Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine by Kyiv.
No country’s attempt to mediate will succeed
Stating that peace is not on the agenda of Russia’s opposition, Lavrov said that in such a situation, it is unlikely that any country’s mediation efforts will be successful.
“Right now, our opponents don’t seem to want peace,” he said. Ukraine’s response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s peace plan, proposed in June, was an attack on the Kursk region and airstrikes on targets in other border areas. Washington and its allies continue to provide extensive support to Kiev and discuss the possibility of using Western long-range missiles to strike deep into Russian territory. “Zelensky has not canceled the ban on negotiations with Russia, and with these words, the efforts of any country, including Türkiye, to mediate will not succeed.”
Cooperation between Moscow and Ankara in the construction of nuclear power plant is beneficial
The Russian Foreign Minister further said that Moscow believes that if an agreement can be reached on the parameters of Russia’s participation in the construction of the Sinop nuclear power plant in Turkey, both countries will benefit.
He said: “The Turkish authorities should decide on what basis and with whose help the Sinop nuclear power plant construction project will be implemented. If we manage to agree on the parameters of Russia’s participation, we believe that both sides will benefit from this.”
America hinders the development of trade relations between Russia and Türkiye
The Russian Foreign Minister went on to say that the United States is trying to block trade between Russia and Turkey, and said that the prospect of cooperation between Moscow and Ankara depends on whether acceptable solutions for both sides will be found soon.
“The United States is trying to limit the opportunities for our foreign partners who are interested in doing business with Russia,” he said. Unfortunately, Turkey is no exception to this rule. “The prospect of our practical cooperation depends on whether experts can find mutually acceptable solutions in the near future.”
