Also, Hamas-affiliated media reported, quoting informed sources, that a delegation of the movement headed by Khalil al-Hiya arrived in Cairo to meet Hassan Mahmoud Rashad, the head of Egyptian intelligence.
A Hamas official told AFP that a Hamas delegation held talks with Egyptian officials in Cairo on Thursday about the cease-fire proposals and expressed the movement’s “readiness” to stop fighting if Israel commits to a cease-fire, withdraws from the Gaza Strip, returns refugees, He stressed the exchange of prisoners and the sending of aid.
This official in the Hamas movement, requesting that his name not be published, said: “A delegation from the movement arrived in Cairo and met with the Egyptian authorities there, and ideas and proposals regarding the resumption of negotiations for a ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners were discussed and reviewed.”
In this regard, Egypt’s new intelligence chief proposed a small exchange deal that included a two-week ceasefire in exchange for the release of five soldiers, after which extensive negotiations would begin. He requested a 48-hour ceasefire to finalize the details.
