The European Troika and Italy condemned Israel’s attack on UNIFIL
In a joint statement, four European countries, while condemning the Zionist regime’s attacks on UNIFIL forces, called for an end to these attacks.
According to RCO News Agency, four European countries, Italy, Germany, England and France, in a joint statement published on Monday evening, demanded the cessation of the attacks of the Zionist forces on the United Nations peacekeeping forces stationed in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The foreign ministers of these four European countries, while expressing their “deep concern” about the recent attacks by the Zionist regime on UNIFIL forces, which have resulted in injuries to a number of UN peacekeeping forces, demanded an “immediate” stop to these attacks.
In another part of the joint statement of the four countries, it is stated: “We condemn any threat against the security of UNIFIL. “Any attack against UN forces in Lebanon violates UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and international laws.”
In addition to Italy, Germany, England and France, a large number of European countries, including New Zealand and Spain, have all unanimously condemned the Zionist regime’s attacks on UNIFIL forces.
Previously, Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman of Antonio Guterres, also stated that the UN Secretary General condemned the attacks by the Zionist regime on the observation posts of the peacekeeping forces of this organization in southern Lebanon in the past days, which injured several of these forces, and emphasized that these attacks They may be an example of committing a war crime.
According to AFP, Dujarric said: “UNIFIL personnel and their bases must never be attacked again. “Attacks against peacekeepers are a violation of international law and may constitute a war crime.”
In the continuation of his statement, referring to the attack of the Zionist regime on UNIFIL forces on Sunday, he wrote: “In an extremely disturbing incident that happened today, the entrance gate of a UN headquarters was deliberately attacked by armored vehicles of the Israeli army.”
According to the AFP News agency, at least 15 UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, have been injured in recent days as a result of the Zionist regime’s attacks.
UNIFIL has declared that any deliberate attack on peacekeeping troops is a serious violation of humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
UNIFIL, which consists of about 9,500 soldiers of various nationalities, was established after the 1978 attack of the Zionist regime on Lebanon. This force has recently accused the Israeli army of deliberately targeting its positions in southern Lebanon.
In a message to the UN Secretary General on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded the withdrawal of UN peacekeeping forces from southern Lebanon and claimed: “refusal to withdraw UNIFIL forces from southern Lebanon means placing them as hostages in the hands of Hezbollah.” And endangering their lives and the lives of our soldiers.”
In response to the request of the Zionist army to withdraw from its bases in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL spokesperson stated: No party can decide on its own about the fate of the mission of UNIFIL forces in this region. UNIFIL forces continue with the mission assigned to them by the Security Council at the request of the Lebanese government; Therefore, our mission in southern Lebanon is a joint decision and no government or party can make a decision regarding this mission alone.
