The head of the European Commission called for a ceasefire in southern Lebanon
Emphasizing the importance of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, the head of the European Commission called for a ceasefire in southern Lebanon between Hezbollah and the Zionist regime in order to find an opportunity for a diplomatic solution to this conflict.
According to RCO News Agency, European Commission President Ursula von Derlein today (Friday) called for a ceasefire in southern Lebanon and adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which was prepared and approved to resolve the war between Lebanon’s Hezbollah and the Zionist regime in 2006.
Sputnik News agency reported that in a news conference in Paphos with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulis, von Derlein said: I would like to express our request to stop the conflicts in Lebanon as soon as possible in order to reach a diplomatic solution regarding the “blue line”. I will repeat the United Nations (the UN demarcation that separates Lebanon from the occupied lands and the Golan Heights). This should be done according to UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war between the parties, required the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Zionist regime to fully adhere to the blue line, which is 75 kilometers long along the southern borders of Lebanon and the northern borders of the occupied territories. Any crossing of this line by Hezbollah or the Zionist regime is considered a violation of this resolution.
In addition to the aerial bombardment of southern Lebanon, from which the residential areas were not spared, the Zionist regime has also started ground operations in this area since October 1 (October 10). So far, more than 2,000 people, including commanders and leaders of the Lebanese Hezbollah, have been martyred during these operations, and more than 9,000 people have been displaced.
The Zionist regime has stated the creation of conditions for the return of 60,000 residents of the northern areas of the occupied territories as a result of the escalation of the exchange of fire with the Lebanese Hezbollah last year as a justification for its aggressive and terrorist actions in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah was the first resistance group to launch rocket and missile attacks against it in response to the Zionist regime’s war crimes in Gaza.
