Putin-Pashinyan agreement; Armenian forces are stationed at the border crossing with Iran
The President of Russia and the Prime Minister of Armenia agreed that the Armenian forces will also participate in the protection of the borders of Iran and Türkiye with the Russian border guards.
According to RCO News Agency, Nazli Baghdasarian, the media spokesperson of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, said that Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed during their meeting in Moscow on Tuesday that starting from January 1, 2025, together with the Russian border guards, the military personnel of the Armenian Border Service will also be deployed. Participate in the protection of the borders of Iran and Turkey.
Baghdasarian also mentioned the details of the meeting between Putin and Pashinyan and said: “During this meeting, the Prime Minister of Armenia presented his “Crossroads of Peace” plan to the Russian President and expressed his concerns about the issues of the Caucasus region.”
According to the report of “Armenpress” News agency, citing Baghdasarian, Pashinyan evaluated his meeting with Putin as “positive”.
Regarding the border of Armenia and Iran, the leaders of the two countries agreed that the control of the border crossing between the two countries of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Armenia will be transferred from the Russian forces to the Armenian forces and only the Armenian forces will be responsible for guarding the border crossing.
In this regard, Pashinyan thanked Putin for the presence of Russian troops on the borders of the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Russia also discussed issues in the fields of energy, education and human rights during their meeting, and according to the Armenian Press report, agreements have been reached between Moscow and Yerevan in these fields.
Putin also said in a statement that commercial and economic relations between Moscow and Yerevan are dynamically developing and progressing.
He added: “Business relations reached 7.4 billion dollars last year, and in the first half of this year, it grew 2.5 times and exceeded 8.3 billion dollars. Also, the trade between the two countries may reach 14 to 16 billion dollars by the end of this year.”
According to the report of the Russian news agency “Tass”, during the meeting, the Russian president stated that the value of Russian investments in Armenia is about four billion dollars, and with this amount, Russia is considered one of the largest investors in the Armenian economy.
Putin also invited the Armenian Prime Minister to the BRICS summit that will be held in Kazan this month.
