Who is the new British ambassador to Iran?
The new British ambassador to Iran, who will start his mission in Tehran this month, has previously worked as the London ambassador in Beirut and also the British chargé d’affaires in Afghanistan.
According to RCO News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of England announced on Thursday that “Hugo Benedict Shorter” will be the new ambassador of this country to Iran, who will soon start his activities in Tehran.
Before Shorter, “Simon Shercliffe” was in charge of the British Embassy in Tehran since 2017.
Hugo Shorter was born on August 11, 1996 and is now 58 years old. In January 2022, he was appointed as the British Chargé d’affaires in Afghanistan and was previously Director of the Americas and Small Island Developing States Department at the Foreign Office from January 2019 to January 2022.
Hugo Shorter was previously Acting Director of Communications at the Foreign Office from November to December 2018 and served as British Ambassador to Lebanon from September 2015 to August 2018.
He also previously advised his country’s foreign secretary on a wide range of London’s foreign policy priorities as head of the European External Action Service.
In addition, Shorter has coordinated British foreign policy affairs in the Group of Seven/Eight (G7/8) after working and focusing on defense, security and trade policy.
He has worked in other positions as an adviser to the minister on European affairs, global affairs, Paris, etc.
This English diplomat graduated from Oxford University as well as the National School of Administration and went to school in Rio de Janeiro.
