Ryabkov: If America resumes nuclear tests, we will give a similar response
Russia’s deputy foreign minister warned that if the US takes steps to resume nuclear tests, Moscow will immediately respond in kind.
According to Isna, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned America about resuming nuclear tests today (Saturday), and said that Moscow withdrew from the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty because its patience had run out.
Speaking to Arti TV channel, he said: “If there are processes that mean that America is looking to resume nuclear tests, we will take action.” Russia will immediately respond in kind.
Ryabkov added: “We withdrew from the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty in November 2023 because we ran out of patience.” We had waited 23 years. This was the end of the story. What will happen next is an open question. The answer depends entirely on what policy Washington and its allies will pursue.
This senior diplomat stressed that withdrawing from ratification is not the same as withdrawing from the treaty.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia also said: We will continue to act in accordance with its spirit and text.
