Russia confirmed the liberation of an important town in Donetsk
Confirming the reports published in the past days, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that they have taken full control of Voldar town in the Donetsk region.
According to RCO News Agency, Ukrainian forces have been in control of the town since 2014, when the Donetsk People’s Democratic Republic declared independence after a US-backed coup in Kiev. Voldar is an important strategic location with high buildings overlooking the surrounding plain.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia announced on Thursday: “As a result of decisive operations by units of the “East” group of forces, the city of Voldar in the Democratic Republic of the Donetsk People’s Republic was liberated.
Images of Russian forces taking control of Voldar were released on social media on Wednesday. These pictures showed the Russian flag above the administrative building of this city. Late on Wednesday, the Ukrainian High Command said it had ordered a withdrawal from the city. It is unclear whether Ukrainian forces have actually managed to break out of the operational blockade.
According to a security source who spoke to TASS News agency, Russian forces have almost finished “wiping out” Ukrainian forces as of Wednesday afternoon. The source added that some Kyiv units suffered “huge losses” after being unable to leave.
According to reports, the 72nd Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which was stationed in Voldar, had requested permission to withdraw following the siege of the city by Russian forces last week.
On the other hand, according to reports published by several Russian military journalists, their requests were rejected. According to these reporters, the Ukrainian authorities believed that withdrawing from Voldar at the same time as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the United States to gain more support for his “victory plan” looked bad, and they preferred to withdraw their troops. send to death
On the other hand, Ukrainian lawmaker “Aleksiy Honkarenko” admitted on Tuesday that the Ukrainian forces have left the town of “Voldar”.
This Ukrainian official wrote in the Telegram messenger, quoting “Rostam Umerov”, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine: “We lost a town that we had for more than 2 years. What does our defense minister do? This is a shame! Today the Russians took Voldar. “Umerov should resign immediately.”
Russian forces have tried to capture Voldar several times in the past. The most promising attack saw them capture the nearby Hut area, but was ultimately defeated by Ukrainian artillery support located in Kurakhovo to the north.
However, in recent weeks, Russian advances have collapsed the Ukrainian front north of Kurakhov, and that city is likely to come under Russian control.
The conquest of this key town by the Russian forces while the “Wall Street Journal” newspaper on Monday in a report referring to the shaky situation of the Ukrainian army and forces on the battlefield wrote: “Ukrainian forces are slowly losing on the battlefield and officials say “They need more help to push Russia back.”
In addition, in his nightly video message, the President of Ukraine addressed the situation of his country in the war and said: “About the reports about the front lines, current and future capabilities, as well as my duties, I must say that the situation is very, very difficult.”
He also accused Western countries of obstructing their support for Kiev in his meeting with Mark Rutte, the new NATO Secretary General, and said: “We need sufficient and high-quality weapons, including long-range missiles. “But our allies are disrupting.”
The president of Ukraine has long called for the use of long-range missiles to attack Russian territory and claimed that this action could lead to Ukraine’s victory, but US President Joe Biden is afraid of a direct confrontation with Russia and the country’s possible response to such an action. And for this reason, he has not yet responded positively to the request of the President of Ukraine.
