Lithuania’s request to the International Criminal Court about the President of Belarus
Lithuania has asked the International Criminal Court to investigate alleged human rights charges against the President of Belarus.
According to RCO News Agency, in Lithuania’s request, it is claimed that Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Belarus, ordered the expulsion and violent prosecution of the opposition.
According to the German News agency, Karim Khan, the Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court, said that this request will be examined by Lithuania.
Belarus is not a member of this international court, but Lithuania is one of the members of this treaty and claims that a series of crimes have occurred in the region, which the Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court can issue an order to investigate.
This request refers to hundreds of thousands of Belarusian citizens who were forced to leave their homeland and live in Lithuania or other EU countries.
According to the Lithuanian authorities, the crimes committed began in April 2020 and continue to this day.
