According to Mehr news agency, quoted by Tribune, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced in a message on the “X” social network that eight Colombian soldiers were killed after a helicopter belonging to the country’s air force crashed near Venezuela.
According to Petro, this helicopter was carrying soldiers who were sent on a humanitarian mission. According to the announcement of the Colombian Air Force, this helicopter crashed in a rural area in Comaribo and none of the passengers survived.
Pictures published on the internet show the burnt remains of this helicopter in a field. This is not the first time that Colombian military helicopters have had an accident this year.
In April, nine soldiers were killed after a helicopter crashed in northern Colombia, and in February, four were killed after a Black Hawk helicopter crashed en route to a base near the Panamanian border. Also in the same month, another helicopter crash in northwestern Colombia killed five policemen.
