Putin: We have the right to use nuclear weapons against aggression
Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized on Wednesday that Russia has the right to use nuclear weapons against any aggression, including serious threats caused by enemies using conventional weapons against Russia.
According to Isna, Putin said at the meeting of the Russian National Security Council about nuclear deterrence: “We have the right to use nuclear weapons in case of aggression against Russia and Belarus.” Regarding all these issues, including the use of conventional weapons by the enemies, an agreement has been reached with the President of Belarus.”
Referring to the update of the nuclear deterrence policy framework, the Russian president said that proposals have been made to consider any aggression by non-nuclear countries with the help of a nuclear country as a joint attack against Russia.
He clarified that Russia may consider the use of nuclear weapons as soon as it receives reliable information about aerial attacks, including through missiles and drones, and crossing the Russian border.
Putin went on to say that the reforms in the framework of policies in the field of nuclear deterrence are calculated and will be proportional to the military threat against Russia.
