Lavrov: Putin’s support for Harris was a joke – Mehr News Agency | RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, citing Rashatoudi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, referring to the recent statements of the President of this country, Vladimir Putin, about Kamala Harris, the Vice President and Democratic candidate in the 2024 US presidential election, and his support for her, said that Putin intended to joke about this.
Earlier this month, Putin claimed at a forum in Vladivostok, Russia, that although he preferred US President Joe Biden before he withdrew from the Democratic nomination, he will support Harris when he announces his candidacy.
Putin’s support for Harris immediately became the first headline of the media in the United States, and the White House responded by asking the Russian president to “not comment on the American election”! Now Lavrov said in an interview with “Sky News Arabic” that Putin “has a good sense of humor and often jokes with journalists in his speeches and interviews.”
He added: Moscow does not see any difference between Harris and Donald Trump, the Republican candidate or other American politicians because it is the “hidden government” that controls America.
The secret government is a term that refers to unelected and often unknown statesmen who direct government policies and are typically high-ranking members of the intelligence and military agencies. During his presidency, Trump always attacked the American secret government and accused its members of obstructing his efforts to leave Afghanistan and Syria and organizing the “Rashgate” case with the aim of destroying his reputation and sugar-watering the relationship between Washington and Moscow.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson, a well-known American journalist and host, in February, Putin said that American politics “has nothing to do with the personality of the president, but with the mentality of the elite (hidden government).”
Lavrov went on to explain that although Trump had friendly relations with Putin during his presidency, sanctions against Russia were “permanently, consistently and powerfully applied” during his presidency.
He added: I don’t have unreasonable expectations from the American president and I am realistic. The Americans adopted a similar policy in the Biden administration. They implement their military thinking through the Ukrainian regime, and the situation is similar in other regions of the world, and they continue to prevent the adoption of any resolution in the UN Security Council to establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.”
