Erdogan: I am ready to meet with Assad/ Concerns about Israel’s plan to expand the war in the region are right
The President of Türkiye stated that he had expressed his desire to meet with his Syrian counterpart in the past and said that this meeting could be a turning point in the relations between the two countries.
According to Isna, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today (Saturday) that he was ready to meet with his Syrian counterpart, Bashar Assad, and was waiting for Damascus’s response to Ankara’s request.
In a press conference on the eve of his trip to the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly, the Turkish president said: “We have already expressed our desire to meet with Bashar al-Assad and normalize relations between Turkey and Syria.”
Erdoğan continued his comments in this regard and said: “We are waiting for the Syrian side to respond.” We are ready for this and I believe that we will mark a new leaf in our relations in this meeting.”
Since the beginning of the Syrian war in 2011, relations between Damascus and Ankara have been strained. The two countries have increased efforts to strengthen their ties this year, and the Syrian president said he is ready to meet with Erdogan, if the meeting is beneficial to Syria’s interests.
Turkish President also said: Israel once again carried out attacks as a terrorist organization and not a government through the explosion of communication devices in Lebanon. Through these attacks against Lebanon, Israel proved that it is trying with all means to achieve its hostile goals. The recent attacks against Lebanon show that we are right to be concerned about the plans of the Israeli cabinet to expand the war in the region.
According to Al-Mayadeen report, Erdogan said: “The international community, especially the Western countries, should stop watching Israel’s criminal actions and take preventive measures against it.”
Erdoğan’s statement comes after the Zionist regime recently committed a crime against the Lebanese by exploding communication devices in Lebanon, which left dozens of martyrs and injured. The Zionist regime also targeted a building in the suburbs of Beirut on Friday, which resulted in the martyrdom of 31 people.
Erdogan also said: (At the UN General Assembly) I will especially focus on ways to jointly confront the ongoing genocide in Gaza and Israel’s aggressive policies.
He said once again: I will emphasize the need to reform the international governance mechanism, especially the structure of the Security Council and the global financial system.
Erdoğan added: Benjamin Netanyahu and his gang are trying to increase tension and conflict in order to implement the extreme Zionist ideology. The recent attacks on Lebanon proved that the concerns about the Israeli government’s plan to spread the war to the entire region are justified. The region is now facing a big and inexplicable crisis.
