Moscow: We will take back Kursk as soon as possible; Zelensky’s plan is a selfish gamble
Moscow announced to remove the Kursk region from Ukrainian control as soon as possible and added that the Ukrainian president’s plan to end the war is a selfish gamble.
According to Isna, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today (Friday) that the Russian army will regain control of the Kursk region as soon as possible.
On August 6, Ukraine seized the border region of Kursk in a surprise attack on Russian territory, using an array of drones and heavy weapons sent to Ukraine by Western countries.
Since then, Russia has been trying to push Ukrainian forces back from its territory and at the same time continue its advances in Ukraine on the eastern and southeastern fronts. On Thursday, a senior Russian commander announced that the country’s armed forces have taken back control of 2 villages in the Kursk region.
The Kremlin spokesman said today: “Our army is doing its job and will achieve its goals.” However, Peskov said he would not give an exact timetable for the armed forces to achieve this goal.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy claimed on Thursday that the Kursk operation has diverted nearly 40,000 Russian troops from other fronts and reduced part of Russia’s pressure on the Donbas region. The comments contradict reports from Western analysts and officials who believe Moscow is continuing to push hard into Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has also emphasized that the country’s military has increased the pace of its advance and has recently taken control of a number of towns, including around the strategic Pokrovsk region.
Zelensky’s peace plan is a selfish gamble
“Maria Zakharova”, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said today that Zelensky’s plan, which Kiev called the “Victory Plan”, is a gamble whose only goal is to maintain the support of the West, and there is no trace of diplomatic and political efforts to resolve this conflict. .
Zakharova said that this plan is a selfish gamble by the president of Ukraine, who intends to drag the West’s foot into a full-scale war and conflict with Russia.
“The only goal is to prevent the collapse of this anti-Russian coalition,” he said. “The question is not at all about finding a political or diplomatic solution to the situation in Ukraine.”
At the end, the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry once again asked the Western countries to end military and financial support to Kiev and emphasized that any peace plan without Russia’s involvement is meaningless.
Zelensky said on Wednesday that the plan – the full details of which have not yet been published – has been completed after many consultations and is scheduled to be presented to US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the upcoming UN Security Council meeting next week.
