According to RCO News Agency, the first foreign trip of Iran’s President Masoud Meghjian has been widely reflected in the world media and each of them has looked at this trip from a different angle.
The New York Times newspaper wrote in a report about this: “The doctor traveled to Iraq for the first time since he took office as the president of Iran in July.” The selection of Iraq as the first destination of foreign travel for doctors clearly shows that Tehran attaches strategic value to Baghdad in the midst of regional tensions.
Euronews also announced in a report: By traveling to different regions of Iraq, doctors hope to deepen relations between Tehran and Baghdad and develop cooperation between the parties despite the escalation of tensions in the region. Meanwhile, Iraq is trying to balance its relations with America and Iran.
The Arab Weekly news site wrote about this trip: On the second day of his trip, the doctors traveled to the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and were warmly welcomed by the Kurdish authorities. Nichervan Barzani, the president of this region, personally welcomed the doctors at the foot of the plane and the Kurdish peshmerga forces paid their respects to him next to the red carpet spread for the president of Iran. During the doctors’ trip to Iraq, 14 cooperation documents were signed between the parties in different fields.
The Voice of America also emphasized in a report about the doctors’ trip: Iran’s president was welcomed by the country’s senior officials at the head of a high-level delegation in Iraq. Ambassador of Tehran in Baghdad said that this trip was done at the invitation of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani. During this trip, two memorandums of understanding on security cooperation were signed between the parties.
Al-Monitor wrote in its report about this trip: Nichervan Barzani warmly welcomed the visit of an Iranian president to the Kurdistan Region in his first foreign trip. The doctors’ trip to Iraq coincides with the escalation of tensions in the region and the Gaza war, which has complicated relations between Iraq and the United States.
Reuters news agency reported in its report: Doctors were warmly welcomed by Baghdad authorities in Iraq, now that the war in Gaza has increased concerns about the spread of the conflict to other regions. During this trip, the President of Iran condemned the ongoing crimes of the Zionist regime against the Palestinians and demanded a ceasefire in Gaza.
Al-Jazeera emphasized the strategic importance of the doctors’ trip to Iraq and pointed out: At the same time as the Western sanctions against Tehran are intensifying, the president of Iran is seeking to expand relations with this country by visiting Baghdad. During this trip, he visited the monument of Martyr General Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of Iran’s Quds Force, in Baghdad and paid his respects to him.
