Stoltenberg’s new job after leaving NATO
European sources announced that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will join the Council of the Munich Security Conference as the head of this conference after the end of his tenure as NATO Secretary General.
According to RCO News Agency, the American publication, citing European sources, reported that “Jens Stoltenberg” will become the new head of the Munich Security Conference after his tenure as NATO Secretary General ends.
Stoltenberg’s term will end on October 1, and he will take up his new post after the Munich conference in February 2025.
Politico also reported that Christoph Hoesgen, who takes over as chairman in 2022, will step down, but Wolfgang Ischinger, a long-time leader of the Munich Security Conference, will remain chairman of the Munich Security Conference Foundation Board.
Stoltenberg, the former Prime Minister of Norway, was appointed to the position of Secretary General of NATO in 2014.
With the announcement of NATO, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has been chosen by the alliance’s allies as its next Secretary General, replacing Stoltenberg.
Reacting to the News that Rutte was chosen as the new Secretary General of NATO, Stoltenberg wrote in a message on his page on the X social network: “I sincerely welcome the choice of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as my replacement by NATO allies.” Mark is a true proponent of transatlantic rapprochement, a true leader and consensus-builder. I wish him success in his continued efforts to strengthen NATO. I know that I am leaving NATO in the right hands.
