Grossi: The security situation of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is unstable
After visiting the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency described the condition of the plant as “unstable and fragile”.
According to RCO News Agency, “Rafael Grossi”, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, who went to visit the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, described the cause of the current situation of this plant as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and said: “The security situation of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is due to “Conflicts are unstable and fragile.”
Earlier on Wednesday, an International Atomic Energy Agency delegation led by Grossi visited the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
According to the report of the Russian News agency “Tass”, after this visit, Grossi told reporters: “It is clear that the situation in Zaporizhia is very fragile due to the military operation. “Today I learned that the areas near Zaporizhia were shelled.”
Grossi personally visited the cooling tower of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. The cooling tower of this nuclear power plant had previously suffered a massive fire due to the Ukrainian drone attacks. Kiev initially identified Russia as the cause of the attack, but the statement of the Atomic Energy Agency proved otherwise.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency said in another part of his statement: “The Atomic Energy Agency should discover the coordinates and trajectory of the bullets to determine the direction from which the Zaporizhia power plant will be bombarded.”
He added: “The cause of the Zaporizhia cooling tower fire was not the fire at its base. “The Atomic Energy Agency does not rule out the occurrence of dangerous and serious conditions in the Zaporizhia power plant.”
“Progress has been made and the situation is stabilizing,” Grossi said. “The agency will carefully analyze the results of this trip.”
He also said: “Given the state of war, it is impossible to reduce surveillance around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.”
During the past few days, Grossi also visited the Kursk nuclear power plant in Russia, which was recently attacked by the Ukrainian army.
Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and one of the 10 largest power plants in the world.
This power plant is located in the southeast of Ukraine, near the city of Enrhodar, on the banks of the Kakhovka River of the Dnieper River.
