Zelensky: We need new energy in the government
After the dismissal of at least 6 Ukrainian officials, including the country’s foreign minister, in the last 2 days, the president of Ukraine declared the reason for these extensive changes to be “a sense of the need for new energy in the government”.
According to Isna, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday that Ukraine needs “new energy” and this is the reason for his decision to make extensive changes in the government.
A total of 6 ministers, including Dmytro Kolba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, have submitted their resignations in the last 2 days, and the Ukrainian Parliament has accepted the resignations of four people so far.
Earlier, Ukrainian sources reported that Olha Stefanyshina, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, has also submitted her resignation to the Ukrainian Parliament.
Also, before him, “Alexander Kamishin”, Minister of Strategic Industries, “Denis Maliuska”, Minister of Justice and “Ruslan Strelts”, Minister of Environment also submitted their resignations.
On the other hand, in recent days, the president of Ukraine announced in a decree published on the presidential website that he dismissed Mykola Oleschuk, the commander of the country’s air force.
In a joint press conference with Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris, Zelenskiy said: “We need new energy today, and the changes in the government have been made in order to strengthen it in various directions.
Parliament is expected to consider the resignation of Ukraine’s foreign minister on Thursday, MPs said.
After Zelensky, Kolba, 43, was Ukraine’s best-known figure abroad, meeting with leaders around the world and lobbying for military and political support in fluent English. Without him, Ukraine’s diplomatic hole will widen.
However, in such a situation, analysts told Reuters News agency that the reorganization of the government was already planned, but due to Zelensky’s consultations with Ukraine’s Western partners to secure military and financial aid, these changes were postponed.
In this regard, Volodymyr Fesenko, a political analyst based in Kyiv, told Reuters: “This is a planned personnel overhaul in the government. Now half of the government will change. This is Zelensky’s method. He believes that the new minister will bring new energy, new approaches, work more actively.
But the resignation and dismissal of Ukrainian officials and the claims of pro-Kiev analysts that these changes were planned, while last week, media sources reported the intensification of domestic criticism against Zelensky for the field conditions of the Ukrainian army and Russia’s increasing success in the war.
Ukraine’s foreign policy will not change
On Wednesday, Zelensky is expected to announce his candidate for the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and Andriy Sibiha, the first deputy minister of foreign affairs, is among the leading candidates.
According to Reuters, the next few months are key for Zelensky as he seeks to win more support from the West and regain the initiative in the war with Russia.
Later this month, Zelensky will visit America and present his “victory plan” to US President Joe Biden.
Zelensky’s attempt to gain more support comes as Russian forces advance in eastern Ukraine.
In recent weeks, Moscow has intensified its drone and missile attacks against Ukrainian military positions.
On Tuesday, at least 50 Ukrainian soldiers were killed by Russia when two missiles hit the city of Poltava.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia released a statement describing this operation and announced: “Dozens of forces affiliated with the Ukrainian army in an educational and hospital building in the city of “Poltava” following one of the most accurate attacks by the Russian military since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in February 2022. They hit, they were killed.”
In a statement published by the Ministry of Defense of Russia, it was stated that the Russian army launched an attack on a training center of the Ukrainian army in the city of Poltava in the center of the country with Iskander ballistic missiles on Tuesday morning, and all the goals of this attack have been achieved.
The ministry announced: “Russian armed forces carried out a precision attack on the joint training center of the 179th Ukrainian army in the city of Poltava. “The missions intended for this attack were accomplished and all the targets that were set were hit.”
Officials in Kiev said that 49 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 219 others were wounded in this Russian attack, but Ukrainian sources in the field say that the casualties reach more than 190 soldiers.
During the last few days, the Russian forces are approaching the important city of Pokrovsk, while making significant progress, and have also forced the Ukrainian units to retreat from their positions.
