Hungarian Foreign Minister: We stand against Western blackmail
Hungary’s foreign minister said on Monday that despite the pressure and blackmail of the West against the country, Hungary will continue to insist on a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine.
According to RCO News Agency, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siarto admitted in an interview with the Russian newspaper ARBK: “Not all of Hungary’s partners welcome the country’s requests to end hostilities between Moscow and Kyiv.”
He added: “When I present a position for peace, they stigmatize me that I was a messenger from the Kremlin or that I am a spy and a supporter of Russia and Vladimir Putin, the president of this country.”
Stating that the level of negotiations regarding the resolution of the war in Ukraine is “not very high”, the Hungarian Foreign Minister emphasized: “This does not help to solve the problems. We continue to defend our position and face very hard pressure or even blackmail from the West. “We are faced with requests to change our position, but we are not ready to do so because this is the will of the Hungarian people.”
“The question is not what we think about war, but how to achieve peace in the shortest and fastest way,” Ciarto continued in this interview. We believe that the more weapons supplied, the longer the conflict will last. “We do not see any solution on the battlefield and all problems must be resolved at the negotiating table.”
Hungary, unlike many EU member states, has rejected sending any lethal weapons to Ukraine and is focused on a peaceful solution to the conflict. This country has also repeatedly criticized the European Union’s sanctions against Russia, and its prime minister has described the said sanctions and restrictions as a “failure” that only worsens the energy crisis.
