Bangladesh flood victims increase to about 60 people – Mehr News Agency RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Reuters, the Ministry of Crisis Management of Bangladesh announced that the number of victims of the deadly flood in this country has increased to at least 59 people. According to this ministry, 11 regions of the country are under the shadow of the effects of flooding.
Monsoon rains in Bangladesh and flooding of rivers in parts of India have plunged the country into crisis for about two weeks, leading to deaths and displacement of residents.
Bangladesh is the intersection of more than 200 rivers. According to the officials, 5 million 457 thousand 702 people in 504 municipal districts in 11 districts have been affected by the flood. Meteorological experts attribute widespread flooding in this country not only to monsoon rains and river flooding, but also to the effects of the “El Nino” phenomenon and climate change.
Earlier this week, the Bangladesh Weather Forecasting and Warning Center faced severe criticism for not correctly predicting the severity of the crisis. The officials of this center say that the reason for this incomplete forecast was the lack of information from their counterparts in the upstream areas of the rivers shared with India.
