Lavrov: Ukraine’s goal of the Kursk operation is naive
In an interview, the Russian Foreign Minister called Ukraine’s intentions to carry out the Kursk counterattack “naïve” and said that it is difficult to judge the West’s plan to support Ukraine in this operation.
According to RCO News Agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that nothing can be said about Ukraine joining NATO.
Lavrov said in an interview with the Rashatudi channel for the documentary program “Bridges of the East” about the West’s support for Ukraine to carry out an attack against the Kursk region of Russia: “It is difficult for me to judge what the plan (of the West) was in this situation.” Our western colleagues have confused the minds. They sometimes suddenly change everything in their own way. But now, political experts are discussing this issue.
Lavrov said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sometimes makes “Freudian” confessions, “as he said about the Kursk operation that they needed this counterattack for further exchanges.”
He added: “That’s why they say they are detaining people and want to seize several square kilometers. This is really naive.”
On August 6, the forces of the Ukrainian army carried out a counter-attack to capture areas of Kursk, Russia.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on August 30 that the Ukrainian armed forces lost 7,800 soldiers and 75 tanks in this counterattack.
In another part of his speech, the Russian Foreign Minister stated that those who try to create obstacles in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia should know that the more they continue their work, the more difficult it will be to reach an agreement.
Lavrov stated: “Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, mentioned the issue of possible negotiations a year and a half ago. He said that we are not against it. Those who oppose it should know that the longer they work, the more difficult it will be to reach an agreement. In Istanbul, less than a month after the start of our special military operation, it was very easy to reach an agreement. Ukraine did not ask for it.
This senior Russian diplomat also said about the Palestinian issue: “When we talk to our Israeli counterparts, we try to promote the idea that trying to solve everything by resorting to the use of force is a dead end without any alternative.”
