Stoltenberg called Ukraine’s attack on Kursk “legitimate”.
In an interview with a German weekly, the NATO Secretary General, in his first reaction to Ukraine’s attack on Russia’s Kursk, considered Kiev’s action legitimate and declared it Ukraine’s right to defend itself.
According to RCO News Agency, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in this interview with the “Welt am Sonntag” weekly newspaper, stated that the alliance did not know about the plans and programs of Ukraine before the Russian attack on Kursk and did not play a role in this attack, saying: “Ukraine He has the right to defend himself and according to international law, this right will not be stopped.”
The NATO Secretary General also said that Ukraine took a risk with this attack on Russian territory, but it is up to him how to proceed with this military campaign.
Stoltenberg further noted: “Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made it clear that the purpose of this attack was to create a buffer zone to prevent further Russian attacks across the border.”
He added: “Like other military actions, this one is also associated with risks. But it is Ukraine’s decision how to defend itself.”
On August 6 of this year, Ukraine attacked Kursk, Russia.
Moscow called the Kursk operation a “major provocation” and vowed to retaliate.
