Consultation of London and Paris leaders about Ukraine and West Asia
Media sources reported the meeting and consultation between the British Prime Minister and the French President at the Elysee Palace.
According to RCO News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron met with British Prime Minister Kerr Starmer at the Elysee Palace today, Thursday, August 29 (September 8).
According to the press release of the French Embassy in London, during the meeting, the French President and the British Prime Minister first discussed the situation in Ukraine. They agreed to continue supporting Ukrainians as long as necessary to ensure the defense and security of the country and the entire European continent.
The leaders of the two countries also talked about the situation in the Middle East and expressed their utmost concern about increasing tensions in the region.
According to the statement, Macron and Starmer stressed that they will continue their talks with their counterparts in the region to urge all sides to de-escalate. They also reiterated their call for an immediate ceasefire that would allow the release of prisoners and the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
In line with their discussion at the end of the meeting of the European political community in “Blenheim” on July 18, the French president and the British prime minister also talked about the prospects of relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom.
In the end, the leaders of the two countries emphasized their desire to deepen bilateral relations, especially in the fields of defense, security and energy. They also decided to deepen their cooperation in the field of illegal immigration in the Channel, especially in the face of human trafficking rings.
On the other hand, according to “Euronews” News channel, Starmer announced in Paris that the authorities of the two countries agreed on a “joint action plan to combat illegal immigration”.
In response to Brussels’ desire to conclude an agreement on the free movement of young people between the UK and the EU, he said that he has no plans in this regard and that he adheres to “clear red lines” on how to strengthen relations with the EU.
At the same time as these diplomatic trips, Michael Berger, the German ambassador to the UK, also announced in a conversation with the BBC: “There are many misunderstandings about the true meaning of the youth movement. While this issue does not mean freedom of movement and has nothing to do with immigration.”
He added: “It means that young people, that is, those who have lost the most from Brexit, have the possibility to go from the UK to the European Union for a limited period of time or vice versa and leave that country after a while. This will increase opportunities for young people, and not only Germany, but all 27 European Union countries want to provide them with such an opportunity.”
