Telegraph: Britain supports Ukraine to use “Storm Shadow” missiles
The British newspaper wrote that London is not opposed to the use of “Storm Shadow” missiles by Ukraine in Russia, but it will not publicly demand this action due to the fear of creating a dispute with the United States.
According to RCO News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly requested the use of these weapons in order to attack deep into Russia.
Despite confusion over London’s position, The Telegraph understands that Downing Street supports the issue. However, the missiles are usually used alongside secret US systems that require Washington’s approval.
The Telegraph newspaper wrote that Britain has not made an official request to the United States for Ukraine to use missiles inside Russia. Understandably, US concerns about the move have been made clear.
A White House source told the Telegraph that Washington is concerned that using these missiles without US approval could lead to escalation of tensions and bring US troops into the conflict in Ukraine.
British Prime Minister Kerr Starmer does not want to be provoked over the issue and is said to support a “consultative” approach to negotiations with the United States after previous tensions under the previous British prime minister.
“We want to talk to allies about these things rather than trying to go ahead and do it,” said one London source.
Earlier this year, informed sources reported, London’s decisions to become the first Western country to donate main battle tanks to Ukraine and London’s push to deliver F-16 fighter jets angered Washington, and officials believed that Britain was trying to is to lead them to similar decisions.
In addition to fears that Russia could use Storm Shadow missiles that could escalate the conflict, there are concerns in the United States that the missiles may not be successful in destroying Russian targets that have moved away from the border.
