Democratic strategist: Harris will pursue a new nuclear deal with Iran
The former US Deputy Secretary of State, who also played a role in signing the JCPOA, predicted that the Democratic candidate would seek a new agreement with Iran if he wins the election.
According to RCO News Agency, Democratic strategist and former Deputy Secretary of State of Barack Obama’s administration for legislative affairs Joel Rubin said in the US House of Representatives: “The idea that the old nuclear agreement can be resumed, we are past that stage.”
Without referring to the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programs, which he insists is not against any side, he added: “Iran’s progress in its nuclear program has exceeded previous limits… a solid and verifiable nuclear agreement that limits the ability to accelerate the development of nuclear weapons.” It should be the goal.”
The former US administration official said: “The best way to do this is to have a nuclear agreement that is solid and approved… Every realistic president is going in that direction. And she is Kamala Harris; “He is a realistic future president.”
According to Fox News, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, was signed in 2015 by Iran, members of the United Nations National Security Council, and the European Union.
However, former US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from this agreement in 2018. But former US President Barack Obama’s allies believe that this is a necessary compromise and a sure way to bring Tehran to the negotiating table.
While Iran insists that nuclear weapons have never had a place in its defense and security doctrine, Joel Rubin said: “There must be a way to prevent Iran’s nuclear ambitions.”
According to him, Tehran’s acquisition of weapons will be a “threat to the region and the world”, including the United States. “But it won’t be an easy way forward,” he continued.
According to Fox News, Kamala Harris, the current vice president of the United States and the Democratic candidate for the November elections, said during her short campaign in 2020 that she would rejoin the Iran deal if she became president.
However, it is not clear whether Harris has maintained such a position in his campaign this year.
