Italy: The West is in danger of starting World War III
The deputy prime minister of Italy believes that Western supporters of Ukraine can start a world war by providing weapons to Kiev that are used to attack targets on Russian soil.
According to RCO News Agency, Matteo Salvini, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and leader of the Lega Nord (Northern League) party of Italy, said in a conversation with Il Sussidiario media: “Sending weapons to attack and kill on Russian soil would be a disaster.” A waiting room for a dramatic global conflict.”
Russian officials say the Ukrainian army used Western weapons in its invasion of the Kursk region. Recently, several Western media have published articles with similar claims. A number of supporters of Kiev have also publicly given the green light to use the sent weapons on Russian soil.
Salvini said his right-wing party had no objection to providing “humanitarian and military aid to enable Ukraine to defend itself.”
Ahead of European Parliament elections in June, Salvini urged Italians not to let left-wing parties win because they, along with French President Emmanuel Macron, are making the prospect of World War III dangerously real. “I strongly want us to vote against the war to isolate dangerous bombers like Macron,” he said at the time.
Salvini also praised the Italian government for its firm stance against those in Europe who are talking about the possible deployment of Western forces in Ukraine and criticized the French president for refusing to rule it out.
Italy’s deputy prime minister also announced in June that “we will no longer approve the shipment of any type of weapons unless we are sure that those weapons will not be used to attack and kill inside Russia.” “This is an incident that will lead us straight into World War III,” he said at the time.
In late May, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosto, citing the Italian constitution, emphasized that the weapons that Italy gives to Ukraine can only be used inside the country’s territory. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reiterated this, telling reporters: “We are not fighting against Russia. “We defend Ukraine, it’s not the same.”
Around the same time, when NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg suggested that Kiev be allowed to strike targets deep in Russia with Western weapons, Salvini described him as “Mr. Dangerous”, while Prime Minister Georgia Meloni He expressed disbelief as to why Stoltenberg said such a thing.
