Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced a development plan worth 10 billion dirhams for the Dubai Exhibition Center (DEC) in the city. Expo has confirmed
When completed, the DEC will be the largest dedicated indoor space for events and exhibitions in the region.
The development will be done in three phases to meet the growing demand.
Sheikh Mohammed said, “The development of the Dubai Exhibition Center is strategically planned to align with the ambitious goals of Dubai Expo City, the Dubai 2040 Comprehensive Urban Plan and the recent development of Al Maktoum International Airport, which is set to become the largest airport in the world.”
The first stage
To be completed by 2026, it will increase the exhibition space to 140,000 square meters, almost two and a half times the current size (58,000 square meters).
The second stage
Projected for 2028, it will increase the total area of the exhibition to nearly 160,000 square meters and make improvements to infrastructure and parking facilities.
The final stage
Expected to be completed by 2031, it will increase indoor space to 180,000 square meters and include 26 halls on one level, capable of hosting one large event or up to 20 smaller events.
This phase will also include a hotel, commercial spaces, administrative offices and an industrial kitchen.
When completed, the DEC will be one and a half times larger than the current Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Center, allowing the UAE to increase its number of major events annually from around 300 to more than 600.
This development will strengthen Dubai as a global hub for trade fairs and events, expanding across sectors including technology, healthcare, food and beverage, financial services, energy and real estate.
