The remains of a Roman temple were discovered in the construction site of a commercial-entertainment complex in Italy.
The ruins of an ancient Roman temple dating back to the 1st century BC were discovered in Sarsina. This area was considered an important border defense base during the Roman Empire. “Sarcina” was also the birthplace of the ancient Roman playwright “Plutus”.
“Sarcina” is a city with a population of about three thousand people, which is located on the slopes of the “Apennine Mountains” in Italy.
Workers first saw evidence of the remains of this temple in December 2022 during the construction of a new complex including a supermarket, a club and a playground.
A little later, parts of a structure made of sandstone and large pieces of marble were also observed in this area.
The archaeologist who is in charge of the excavation in this area said:
We have discovered three separate rooms that appear to have been built for the worship of Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva, the three ancient Roman gods. The excavation is still ongoing and we have now managed to discover the older and deeper layers of this ruin, which belong to the fourth century BC and the time of the Umbrian settlement in this area. This temple may be much bigger than we imagine.
According to experts, what distinguishes this discovery from other similar finds is the extent to which the remains of this temple remain intact. The stones of this temple have been spared from enemy attacks and looting over the millennia.
