According to Qatar News Agency; “Qatar Museums” announced the success of registering three new ancient and historical sites in the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) heritage list. This action, which was carried out in line with Doha’s commitment to preserve and promote its cultural heritage at the regional and international level, includes the village of “Al Mafjar”, the ancient site of “Ain Mohammed” and the ancient settlement of “Al-Murwab”. With the addition of these items, the number of Qatari works registered in the “ISECO” list has now reached 10, which shows the depth of history and civilizational richness of this country in the Islamic world.
Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi, CEO of Qatar Museums, described this success as a turning point in the cultural path of his country and considered it as connecting future generations with its historical identity. The files submitted to this organization were compiled in close cooperation with the international and architectural conservation departments to properly explain the outstanding global value of these places to international experts. Previously, works such as “Al Zubarah Fort”, “Al Jassasiya” ancient site and the old palace of Qatar National Museum were also included in this list.
The newly registered sites display different dimensions of Qatar’s history. Among them, we can see the settlement of “Al-Morub”, whose roots go back to the Abbasid era, to the coastal villages that tell the story of the traditional life of the people of this land in recent centuries. Qatar’s cultural authorities have emphasized that this international recognition doubles their responsibility in continuing archaeological research, documentation and sustainable protection of these places so that these historical treasures are safe from the ravages of time and urban development.
