“Majid Akhwan”, the spokesman of the Civil Aviation Organization, said:
In a new and valuable move, the Civil Aviation Organization seeks to make air travel easier for people who need wheelchairs, and with this new plan, it obliges airlines and internet sales agents to provide a special option for this group of passengers when selling tickets online.
He added:
According to this plan, a special sign called “wheelchair” will soon be added to ticketing websites and applications, and passengers who need this service can make sure that a special seat is available for them on the desired flight by choosing this option at the same stage of buying a ticket and before paying.
The Brotherhood stated:
Until now, many ticketing sites did not have the possibility to register the need for a wheelchair at the same time as the purchase, and passengers had to make their request by calling or visiting the airline company after the purchase. This process was not only time-consuming, it sometimes caused confusion and worry for passengers. The new design completely solves this problem.
The spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Organization added:
According to this proposed plan, each airline company is required to specify the maximum number of seats that can be allocated to disabled passengers who need wheelchairs in each flight, according to the type of aircraft and the safety regulations for the transportation of disabled passengers.
Akhwan, stating that the above capability will be considered as one of the components of airline service ranking in the future, added:
Although creating such a capability requires updating the capabilities of ticket reservation systems and coordination between different departments, it is a big and effective step towards respecting the rights of citizens and creating justice in access to air transportation services for all members of society.
