Masuleh’s case was submitted for global registration

According to ISNA; According to the announcement of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, the world registration file of Masuleh was ready to be sent to UNESCO on 5 February 1404 to be included in the world list.

Ali Darabi, signing the file “Cultural landscape of Masuleh and metallurgy sites related to it”, said:

Earlier in the 45th UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (September 1402), this case was raised and it was decided to conduct further studies. Now the Masuleh file is completed and will soon be sent to the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

According to the Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, the importance of the Masuleh case is that it proves iron mining in the Islamic period. In addition, it has a privileged position in the Hyrcanian forests, and the life of different tribes and the shape of the buildings are among its other advantages and characteristics.

In 2007, Masuleh was temporarily registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This case was examined in 26 Shahrivar 1402 (September 17, 2023) at the 45th meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, but the case was “deferred” with the opinion of ICOMOS (the International Council of Buildings and Sites and UNESCO’s advisory arm). With the consultation of Iran and the opinion of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee, Iran was given the opportunity to resolve the ambiguities and send this case to UNESCO again for consideration, regardless of the country’s annual quota limit.
