According to Forbes; The year 2026 (1404-1405) will be a year full of exciting and unique events for night sky observers. This year, unlike the usual 12 full moons, the sky will host 13 full moons, which will be accompanied by other astronomical events such as three supermoons, two lunar eclipses and a “blue moon”.
According to the astrological calendar, this busy year begins with a “Wolf Supermoon” on January 3, 2026 (Dan 13, 1404) and ends with the biggest and brightest supermoon in 19 years on Christmas Eve. One of the rare phenomena of this year will be the occurrence of a “blue moon” on May 31, 2026 (June 10, 1405). The term blue moon refers to the second full moon in a calendar month.

Additionally, two lunar eclipses will occur this year, both of which will be visible from North America. The first total lunar eclipse, known as the “Blood Moon”, will take place on March 3, 2026 (March 12, 1404). The second event will be a very deep partial lunar eclipse on August 28, 2026 (6 Shahrivar 1405), during which about 96 percent of the lunar disk will be in the Earth’s shadow.
The supermoon phenomenon will also be repeated three times in 2026: January 3 (January 13, 1404), November 24 (December 3, 1405) and December 24 (December 3, 1405). A supermoon occurs when the full moon is at its closest distance from Earth, causing it to appear larger and brighter than usual. The December 24 supermoon, also known as the Cold Supermoon, will be the closest full moon to Earth since 2019 and is known as the most prominent lunar display of the year.
