Midar, the first luxury Kuwaiti seafood restaurant in the country, has become a cultural icon since its opening. Located in The Avenues complex, this restaurant pays tribute to the golden age of Kuwait in the 1960s and 1970s with its unique design, original menu, traditional hospitality and memorable music. An era of flourishing design, urban developments and culture where fresh and high quality seafood was an integral part of daily life. (Love That Design)

The design of Midar restaurant, which is a combination of contemporary and nostalgic atmosphere, was done by Gastronomica company. Bassel Al-Salem, the international entrepreneur and CEO of this company, is the main innovator of the “Midar” concept. With the cooperation of the design team, he has created a space that beautifully depicts the architecture, music and flavors of that glorious era. Al Salem emphasizes the importance of honoring Kuwaiti tradition and heritage, especially in food culture.

The ocean is the main inspiration for Midar’s interior design; From the patterns that evoke fish scales on the marble stones to the fishing nets that adorn the ceiling. Antique brass details, sand-textured walls, and handmade pottery by local artists create a bright and intimate space. Also, inspired by Kuwait’s desert roots and urban landscape, earthy colors and traditional cement blocks, which are a key part of the local architectural heritage, are used in the decoration. All these elements together create an experience beyond just a meal and provide guests with a journey to the heart of Kuwait’s history and culture.
