On September 1, 2009, as Saturn is in the “confrontation” state, more than 5 public observation programs will be held in various cities of the country.
In these programs, astronomical groups and associations use the telescope to watch the nearest and best observation position of the planet and its magnificent circles.
The planet of Saturn, with its famous and beautiful rings, is in a state of confrontation on Sunday, September 5. Under these circumstances, the planet will be located right between the sun and Saturn, thus Saturn closer to Earth than ever before.
The distance between Saturn and Earth is about one billion and 2 million kilometers, which is approximately 2 million kilometers closer than usual. Now that Saturn is in the face of the sunset, it rises from the east at the sunset, at midnight reaches its highest height from the southern horizon and hides almost at the sunrise in the sunrise. In this way, enthusiasts will have the opportunity to watch the “lord of the solar system’s rings” throughout the night and see their rings with the telescope.
Astronomers say “Saturn’s confrontation” is the best time to see the planet. In such circumstances, enthusiasts can view not only the planet of Saturn itself but also the rings and even some of its great moons such as “Titan”, “Rea”, “Dion” and “Totis” with large amateur telescopes.
Khosrow Jafari Zadeh, head of the Iranian Astronomical Association’s Amateur Committee on the importance of the event, says:
Holding public observation programs on the occasion of Saturn’s planet in a state of confrontation is a valuable opportunity for people, especially the younger generation, to establish a closer relationship with the beauties of the night sky and astronomical science. Saturn is one of the most amazing planets in the solar system, and seeing it from the back of the telescope will be an unforgettable experience for each person. We hope that these programs will be able to create a new motivation for the expansion of scientific and promotional activities in society.
