Iranian architect Sajjad Navidi, using conceptual architecture, seeks to find solutions to crises caused by climate change. (Yanko Design)
His latest project, Puffer Village, is a set of smart homes designed to adapt to sea level and change atmospheric conditions. Navidi says:
One of the major crises of the future is the rise of sea level, which can be a serious threat to human survival.
The proposed location for the implementation of the Pafar Village project is Ganview in Benin; One of the largest villages in Lake Africa, which is at risk of increased water levels. The wooden houses in the area are constantly damaged by severe tides and storms, and its inhabitants have to deal with this constant threat.

The promise of design sought the source of inspiration in nature. He was inspired by the behavior of the balloon fish in Lake Nokoué (Nokoué); A species that swells your body when threatening to fill the water or air to become resistant to hunters. According to the idea, the Puffer Village homes rely on intelligent technology that can change the volume and shape of the building according to the conditions.

Normally, the puffer houses with a flat ceiling remain on the lake bed; But as the water rises or the storm occurs, the underlying containers are filled with water to keep it on the bottom of the lake. At the same time, the roof of the house swells like a wind shell and increases the inner volume.
In addition to adapting to the environment, Puffer Houses use renewable energy sources. Blue turbines and solar panels provide the energy needed for smart systems and sustainable performance.

The Puffer Village is a demonstration of the future of indigenous architecture; Where the design of buildings not only responds to climate change, but in harmony with nature, it offers a new way to survive in difficult conditions.
