There are lands that do not form the formal definition of a “country”, given the political and international standards. The list you will read below is limited to areas that are neither members of the United Nations nor even have a supervisory position in the organization. The list also includes lands that no country recognizes or no country in the world has endorsed its independence.
Democratic Democratic Republic of Sahara
The Saahrawi Arab Democratic Republic announced its existence on the northern west coast of Africa. The efforts of the republic to recognize as an independent state have always been impeded. This part of the West Sahara was formerly the Spanish colony, and after Spain‘s departure, Morocco joined it.
The Democratic Republic of the Sahara has been listed in the UN List of non -Self -Lands and has a population of about 2.5 people. The independence of this land was accepted by some countries at some point; But it is not yet officially recognized as an independent country. The area is separated from the eastern part with a belt of land mines and military fortifications.

This small, landlord area, which is very dependent on Russian donations, is bordering with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova; However, the international community considers it part of the Moldova. The attempt to independence began when Moldova departed from the Soviet Union in the 1980s, and the plan to ban Russian language was the culmination of disputes.

Russia was the first country to recognize Abkhazia just after the war with Georgia. Other countries that have recognized Abkhazia include Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauro and Syria.

South Ossetia Republic
South Ossetia is located on the borders of Georgia and declared its independence shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union. This autonomous republic, like Abkhazia, has been recognized by a few UN member states, including Russia.
Tensions of South Ossetia’s independence began in the late 1980s; The separatist movements sought independence from Georgia and the alliance with North Ossetia and Alanya (in Russia). Following Georgia’s independence in the year 2, there were fierce clashes between the Ossetia and Georgian forces. A year later, the ceasefire was established, and the independence of South Ossetia was recognized by the constitution and the presidential election in year 6.

The Republic of China, best known as Taiwan, considers itself a country apart from the People’s Republic of China; But it is not officially a country. Taiwan was independent until the seventeenth century until it became the Dutch colony and then became China’s dominance. Taiwan Island was transferred to Japan in the year 9, after China’s defeat in the first China -Japan War. The Republic of China was formed in year 6 and after Japan’s surrender at the end of World War II, it was recognized as the only Chinese government; A government that was merely governed by Taiwan Island with the support of countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom.
Since the advent of Mao Zedong and the Communist empowerment, the gap between the Republic of China and the People’s Republic of China continues, and Taiwan’s position as an independent country is vague. At present only five countries have recognized the Republic of China, and Taiwan’s efforts to join the United Nations have failed. China’s current President Xi Jinping continues to emphasize his intention to re -unite with Taiwan; While the US State Department has promised to defend Taiwan if necessary.
