Aleksei Boiko, a landscape and travel photographer from Ukraine, known for recording stunning details, has been pointing to Indonesia paddy fields. His collection of photographs entitled “The Art of Food Planting” is not the only record of the agricultural process; Rather, they provide a visual and poetic experience of rice breeding.
In these images, the rice -coordinated agricultural dance is seen; From the emerald green fields in which the seedlings die, to the golden range of paddy fields that slowly dance in the breeze. We see farmers who are carefully working; While their stature appears to be small and humble against the breadth of the farms. The reflection of light and shadow on the surface of the water creates a fantasy view that makes paddy fields into bright mirrors and reflects the scope of the sky.
Boko’s photos go beyond beauty, a honest look at the hidden suffering behind the production of this vital grain; An attempt that reflects the deep relationship between man and the earth; A relationship that has kept generations and civilizations alive.
As the need for food increases, mankind crosses the boundaries of nature and even cultivates the most inappropriate areas; Hills, valleys and lands with difficult access are considered. Nature is unquestionable; But paddy fields and farms are the result of a subtle link between human effort and the structure of the earth. We try to change the face of nature by repeating the pattern of cultivation, and in this path, amazing roles and forms are created that will, in themselves, become an artwork. Boyuko says:
By creating these patterns, we tame nature and coordinate with it. These farms are not only the source of food, but also an artwork that has emerged from human cooperation and nature.
This collection exhibits the beauty and hardship of agricultural life in Indonesia and invites us to reflect on the value of land and human effort to cultivate food. With each box, Boyuko records not only the scenery, but also the story of sustainability and harmony. (Visualflood)
