Andrew Student, a nature photographer who has always been interested in this field, was expected to focus on the beauty of temples and pristine landscapes before his first trip to Bhutan; But street photography and portraiture caught his attention.
In the winter of 2008, the studio was re -invited to Bhutan to carry out a unique photography project for the Mybhutan media. This time, his main purpose was to record portraits of the Brokpa people, a tribe living in the remote village of Marak in eastern Bhutan.
He drove from the airport for four hours to reach this distant village, where he photographed the life and culture of the tribe. A challenging journey that brought an opportunity to understand more about indigenous culture and hard life in the Bhutan Mountains.
This experience not only provided an opportunity for Bhutan’s natural landscapes, but it also enabled the studio to portray the daily lives of the Brookpa people and their deep connection to nature. His portraits of these people also convey not only the appearance, but also their deep cultural emotions and bonds.
