The Norwegian blacksmith transforms old industrial screws into human and emotional sculptures and pulls new stories out of simple metals.
“Bolt Poetry” is the name of a series of sculptures created by Tobbe Malm, a blacksmith and photographer based in Oslo, Norway. These sculptures are made from old metal screws that Mr. Malm found in a warehouse in Sweden.
He has heated, bent and made these screws into complex and emotional shapes that resemble human figures. These sculptures depict a wide range of emotions and moods such as love, sadness, pain, warmth and humor. “Mallem” has chosen the name “Spirit Poetry” for these poetic figures; Because according to him, these screws have stories to tell. He says:
I tried to create relationships, meetings and situations and suddenly, stories of sadness, joy, pain, warmth and humor were formed. A kind of poetry came into being and that’s why I chose this name.
The series “Poetry of Screws” is an amazing example of how a simple material can be transformed into a powerful artistic expression. Using his skills as a blacksmith and his artistic imagination, the artist gives rusted bolts life and personality.
His works are realistic and abstract at the same time and invite the audience to interpret their personal feelings and concepts. This art collection showcases Tobeh Mallem’s creativity and skill and his ability to extract amazing human forms from simple metal screws.
