Qatar’s impressive growth in tourism; Registration of 10 million nights of stay

Saad bin Ali Al Kharji, head of Qatar Tourism, said:

Hosting more than five million visitors is a significant achievement for Qatar, bringing us closer to realizing our vision of positioning the country as one of the world’s top and fastest growing destinations.

He also stated:

This 25% growth, along with the exceptional sale of 10 million overnight stays, emphasizes the effectiveness of our strategy and the joint efforts of our shareholders. This milestone is not only a celebration of our achievements, but a foundation for future growth as we continue to provide unique experiences and excellent service across all tourist destinations for every visitor. Our tourism goals are ambitious but achievable. Between 2022 and 2030, we aim to almost triple the number of visitors to Qatar and at least double tourism spending in the destination. Also, our goal is to increase the total share of tourism in the GDP to 10-12%.

According to Middle East Economy and based on new statistics, the nationals of the member countries of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council make up 41% of the visitors to Qatar, while the remaining 59% comes from international markets. Key source markets including Saudi Arabia, India, the UK, Germany and the US have seen significant growth in travel to Qatar.

In addition to exceeding the target of 4.79 million visitors, Qatar also exceeded the annual target of 8.8 million overnight stays and reached 10 million overnight stays this year. Also, in 2024, about 56% of passengers will have entered this country by air, 37% by land borders, and the remaining 7% by sea. In addition, Qatar’s hospitality sector has expanded significantly, surpassing 40,000 hotel rooms.

The number of tourists and travelers in Qatar has steadily increased throughout the year, and the holding of the Asian Nations Cup in January 2024 has set the stage for a record-breaking year, and the Qatar Formula 1 Grand Prix has also added to the attractiveness of this small Persian Gulf country for foreign visitors. .
