The head of Faraja Immigration and Passport Police gave an explanation about the validity of passports becoming 10 years old.
In response to a question about when the 10-year passports will be implemented, Colonel Omid Nodehi, head of Faraja Immigration and Passport Police, stated:
The bill to increase the validity of passports to 10 years has already been approved by the government and sent to the Islamic Council, but it has not yet been approved by the parliament. Therefore, the police have not yet been notified of an issue in this regard so that the police want to implement it.
He stated that increasing the validity of passports is an issue that the police has been pursuing, and said:
This bill should be reviewed in the parliament, specialized commissions should be formed and various aspects should be weighed and finally a general law should be approved.
In response to a question about whether the age of 15 is suitable for issuing a 10-year passport, the head of Bayan Immigration and Passport Police said:
This issue should be investigated in specialized police commissions and the conditions of changing the face of people at the age of puberty and other issues should be measured and then a final decision should be made.
Regarding whether the police have the necessary infrastructure to enforce the law on the 10-year validity of passports after the final approval, Colonel Nodehi said:
There is no problem in the issue of export, but border systems, export systems and the type of service provision should be reviewed and a basic mechanism should be found so that we can implement this plan. Currently, international passports are valid for 5 years, and we have to wait until this bill is passed in the Islamic Council and becomes a law, and then it is sent to Faraja, so that passports with 10-year validity can be produced and printed.
