Sepehsalar Mosque of Tehran is one of the historical and special mosques of Tehran.
Sepehsalar Historical Mosque is a large mosque with valuable architecture in the south of Baharestan Square.
These days, this historical mosque is known as Shahid Motahari Mosque and School, and despite its historical values, it can only be visited during the prayer time. In this historical photo, Sepehsalar Mosque can be seen from the south view. This picture, which was taken during the first Pahlavi period, also shows the view of life in the city of Tehran.
The founder of Sepahsalar Mosque was Mirza Hossein Khan Sepahsalar of Qazvini, the chancellor of Naseruddin Shah Qajar, who ordered its construction in 1258; But since Sephesalar passed away in Mashhad two years later, in 1260, his brother Yahya Khan Mushir al-Doleh completed this building within five years (from the date of starting the work). Mirza Mehdi Khan Shaghaghi, nicknamed Mumthan al-Dawlah, was the designer of this building and the architect was Hassan Memar Qomi.
