Imagine you have stepped into a quiet garden in the heart of the desert; Where the air is cool, the sound of flowing water soothes you and colorful fish swim beautifully in clear pools. Welcome to Daulat Abad Garden, Yazd; Where ancient Iranian engineering comes to life in the most enchanting way.
Magnificent breeze! Above the garden, the tallest windmill in Iran can be seen, its height is 33.8 meters. This amazing architectural element, known as the Windmill, attracts the gentle breezes of the desert and directs them towards the garden. As the air flows through the windshield, it passes over water fountains, cooling the air through a natural process called evaporative cooling. This ingenious design keeps the garden fresh even on the hottest days. Underneath the garden is a hidden network of tunnels known as the aqueduct system. This ancient irrigation method brings water from underground aquifers to the surface and provides a continuous source of fresh water. The aqueduct system not only maintains the greenery of the garden, but also powers the beautiful fountains that dot the landscape. As you wander through the garden, you will hear the gentle sound of running water and see fish swimming in the pools. These fish thrive in cool, oxygen-rich water supplied by the aqueduct system. The combination of windbreak and aqueduct creates a harmonious environment where nature and engineering work seamlessly together.
Environmentally friendly and timeless! What makes this ancient piece of engineering built in 1747 so remarkable is its eco-friendly nature. The entire system works without any external energy source and relies only on natural forces such as gravity, wind and water. This sustainable design is a testament to the ingenuity of Iranian engineers who created solutions that were both effective and environmentally conscious.
Visiting Daulat Abad Garden is like stepping back in time to witness the brilliance of ancient Iranian innovation. It is a place where history, nature and engineering come together to create a truly magical experience. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or just someone who appreciates beautiful design, Daulatabad Gardens offers something for everyone.
Come and discover this hidden gem in Yazd and let the wonders of ancient Iranian engineering captivate your imagination.
2. Ebru Oğuz from Turkey
This is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Yazd. Compared to the desert climate, it is really beautiful. I was very curious about the lighting situation at night. The restoration work continues at the end of the garden and various gardens can be seen around it.
3. Ilario Bonomi from Italy
The house is one of the highest gardens in Iran, which deserves more care. One of the two garden buildings is actually completely abandoned and the other has the entire upper floor unusable. The garden as a whole is very beautiful with a fountain that runs completely through it as well as walls that enclose everything. This complex needs proper renovation.

A beautiful garden!
Tip: As a foreigner, always request a ticket after paying the entrance fee. It didn’t issue me a ticket automatically and the attendant might have pocketed the money.
5. Jūratė Sarapienė from Lithuania
A beautiful and tidy place! It is also interesting to see the exhibition and the library. It is a new thing for me to know more about Zoroastrian religion. Nice and cozy place!
