The Urartian rock inscription of Qarajelu, East Azerbaijan province was studied.
Maryam Dara, a member of the scientific faculty of the research institute and an expert in ancient languages, said:
The Urartian rock inscription of Qarajelu, which is located in East Azarbaijan province, next to the road from Ahar to Meshkinshahr, was identified for the first time by Salar Alipour, a mining engineer, on March 28, 1400.
He added:
The first introduction of this rock inscription was first presented by him in the form of a speech entitled “New Urartian Inscriptions in Iran” at the “Urartian and Beyond” International Conference in September 1401 at One Museum in Turkey. Despite professional photography, reading the inscription is very difficult due to serious damage such as lichen, moisture, spillage, erosion and severe wear and tear, and it is currently in the stage of photography and photogrammetry processing.
Dara said in the end:
The inscription’s calligraphic studies and other regional evidences show that this inscription was probably written during Urartuian Argisheshti II and after 713 BC.
