Tales of nomadism: a visual narrative of the life of Iranian nomads

Iran’s turbulent history is linked to the history of its tribes and tribes; In other words, the nomads of this land form a part of its original identity. Until the year 1300, 25% of Iran’s population was made up of Ilat and its nomads; But this figure gradually decreased and reached below two percent in 1403. However, a quick look at the culture and life of the nomads, which are mostly settled today, is always interesting and admirable.

Wolfgang Wiggers is a German neurobiologist, teacher, photography enthusiast and collector who is very fond of collecting old black and white photos. He published pictures on his Flickr page that show the life of Iranian nomads in the mid-1930s (1935 to 1937). It is said that these rare photos were recorded by an Austrian photographer who traveled to Iran at that time.

The life of the nomads, women, men and children of the tribe, their daily activities and the surrounding natural scenery, can be seen in these interesting and lasting photos. The pictures of this Austrian photographer not only show the cultural and social aspects of nomadic life; Rather, it provides a valuable historical document of nomadic life in Iran about a century ago.
