Mangrove Photography Awards were held for the 10th consecutive year in 2024 to spread awareness about the importance of mangroves for various animal species as well as humans.

Mangrove forests are considered one of the most valuable forest ecosystems in the world. These forests are actually fertile wetlands between land and water that usually grow in tropical or subtropical geography and coastal areas. The global distribution of mangrove trees, despite the fact that most of its species are native to tropical regions, can be seen in many parts of the globe.

India, Indonesia, Colombia, Mexico, Bahamas, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Madagascar and America are some of the countries that host mangrove trees on earth. However, the amazing nature of mangroves in some countries is under threat and destruction due to the entry of polluted water from sewage, industrial waste, urban development, etc.

Iran’s mangrove forests are also located on the coasts and islands of the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea and in the provinces of Bushehr, Hormozgan and Sistan and Baluchistan. The largest area of ​​these forests is located in Hormozgan province, and the Qeshm mangrove forest with its evergreen trees is world-famous, including Iran’s biosphere reserves, and is considered one of the country’s most valuable natural heritages.
