An amazing site that lovers of unique settlements must visit. People have been living in those crypts for more than 2000 years and about 30 families still live there. Because the residents of this area are seasonal, the village has been added to the UNESCO list. They used to live in this village for 4 months, in summer pastures for 4 months and in mountain gardens for 4 months (some still follow this practice). You are advised to stay in local eco-lodges to experience the hospitality, organic home-cooked meals and chat with the locals.
2. Koen from Germany
A very special village that is definitely worth visiting. For us, four tourists from the West, the visit to Maimand started as a routine excursion and was definitely worth the visit; But to our surprise, we were met with a warm and sincere welcome from curious Iranians. Now, thanks to all those friendly people, I think back on the memories of this trip with pleasure!
3. David Creu from Spain
It is a city where people live in caves; It is not a special attraction and it is a bit far away. On the way from Kerman to Yazd, we were going to visit another city and castle, and they offered us a visit to this village at a relatively cheap price, and we went. You can really skip the visit. A local man invited us to his house for tea and was very hospitable.
4. Raffaele Nicolussi from Italy
It is a very interesting ancient site; But it should be avoided during hot hours.
5. Huang John from China
You should visit this attraction and stay at least one night in the stone houses.
6. Mehdad Noor (Jakobus Geymüller) from Canada
A stunning and unique village! There are incredible stories behind this village. I have spent a few days there and I will never forget the memories and experiences. Be sure to check everything in and around it to get a good understanding of the place. I recommend staying a few nights in the caves and try the local cuisine there. Be sure to get there when it is not crowded. I stayed at “Meimandmon” residence and I was satisfied.
